Please do contact

Photograher from the blue, Ed Whiting.
I have been
diving and taking underwater photographs for a number of years.
This has meant that I have been very lucky enough to travel to some
of the remotest parts of the world. Sadly it is becoming apparent
that the effects people have on the land extend to the sea and it
is only with knowledge and education that this destruction can be
controlled.
I have been
to Myanmar twice in the last five years. From the moment you enter
this country you have the feeling of going back in time. I'm not
saying this is a backward country just that there is a whole different
pace and set of priorities there. The unfortunate thing is that
catching up with the western world is a high priority due to the
assumed wealth and happiness. Items that we take for granted like
fridges and plastic are entering Myanmar at an alarming rate, but
as we are learning to our cost in the west, this progress comes
with a high price.
Divers or tourists
rarely visit the Andaman Islands and therefore there are very few
photographs of the area. This trip was undertaken as I have a passion
for seeing and photographing places that are intact and reflect
a part of the world, which remains in its own time. My aim is to
build a large portfolio to convey the waters around the world. More
recently I traveled back to the southern Red Sea. This has to be
one of the most dived seas in the world. In the years that I have
been diving, I have seen the decline in these waters; I am concerned
for the long term. I question if my children will see these wonders
when 80 percent of the world's reefs are in the worlds most populated
areas.
I started by
taking photographs on land so when I started diving I wanted to
take photographs underwater. I now try hard to do both as I feel
it is as important to see the people and places in order to understand
the underwater environment.
I sell limited
edition print, posters and cards through my own company, from the
blue. My hope is to be able to spend more time, in more places,
in more countries taking photographs. I want to be able show, or
remind others of the beauty, as I truly believe that the growth
in population, as well as pollution, is changing our planet.
